Celebrating 20 Years of the ASC
Over the past two decades, the Aboriginal Steering Committee (ASC) at HELP has continued to support a deeper understanding of the social, environmental, and cultural determinants of First Nation, Inuit, and Métis children’s health and wellbeing. Last month, we held a celebration for the ASC's 20th Anniversary at the First Nations Longhouse, honouring past and current members, and all of their contributions to HELP over the years.
Relationship-Building in Rocky Mountain School District
Child Development Monitoring System data are useful sources of information to support cross-sector early learning and child care discussions and partnerships. This month, we profile the collaborative approach in BC's interior Rocky Mountain School District to strengthening relationships between community child care providers and kindergarten teachers, and growing early learning and child care spaces across the district.
The UBC Early Years Conference is coming up on February 1-3, 2024 in Vancouver and HELP is hosting the Pre-Conference Day! Registration is now open — we hope you will join us at the conference to learn more about research and innovation in practice under the theme of Connecting & Belonging in the Early Years: Enhancing Relationships Between Professionals, Families, & Children.
HELP Director Dr. Mariana Brussoni and HELP Trainee Megan Zeni recently launched an online tool for parents, caregivers and educators, providing them with the skills and confidence to support outdoor play and learning in elementary schools from kindergarten through Grade 7.
The next #HealthAfter2020 Dialogue Session is coming and speakers include HELP faculty members Dr. Matt Carwana, Dr. Magdalena Janus, and Dr. Martin Guhn. This event on November 16 will examine equity in early childhood emerging from COVID-19 and the overall question: Are early years still the greatest equalizer?
November 20 marks the 30th anniversary of National Child Day and Children First Canada is hosting a number of events and for the first time ever, will have unique programming for children and youth of all ages!
