Guest Column: The Time is Now — A Focus on Social and Emotional Learning
In January 2023, HELP hosted a 2-part webinar series presented by internationally renowned social and emotional learning (SEL) scholar and former HELP Director Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichel, alongside researchers from the SEL Research Lab. In this guest column, Dr. Denise Buote, team member with the Lab, highlights some key messages from the series. Links to the webinar recordings, presentation slides, and other related resources are also provided.
Orphée Tamba, a PhD student with HELP, believes that understanding the social determinants of health and how they shape developmental trajectories is crucial to achieving health equity. “I am particularly passionate about studying the impact of these factors in early childhood, as it is a critical period in a person's life that can set the stage for future health and well-being.”
Hosted by the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, this three-part interactive webinar series (Feb 1-Mar 29) will explore how anti-Black racism impacts health and identify concrete opportunities for public health action.
A study led by Emily Gemmell examines how urban environments shape early childhood experiences, influencing core areas of development for young children, and considers potential differences across gender, culture, and geography.
It has been ten years since the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Clyde Hertzman. We hope you will join us in remembering Clyde through this playlist that we call Clyde’s Greatest Hits. Clyde’s influence in the fields of early child development, population health and epidemiology were significant across British Columbia, nationally, and internationally. "A passionate visionary, esteemed researcher and early child advocate, Clyde inspired every one of us." And his inspiration continues to guide the work of HELP to this day. Click above for our favourite memories of Clyde.
